Westlife - Beautiful World

Westlife recently released a new single titled "Hello My Love" after a long hiatus. Despite being co-written by Ed Sheeran, I think it is quite a weak comeback. My biggest issue with the song is the line "hair growing where it's meant to" because it straightaway paints hideous images in my mind. I was letting YouTube auto-play Westlife songs one after another. My reactions mainly teetered between "Yup, heard it before" and "Haven't heard this one, but not bad", until "Beautiful World" came along.

Turned out it was one of their final releases before splitting in 2012. I did a little research and found that that another song was selected as the first single of that album instead of this one. I feel that it was a mistake choosing the other song over "Beautiful World" as "Beautiful World" practically documents Westlife's journey and floods one mind with memories. The lyrics plucks on heartstrings with lines like "Life's made up of small victories". It sort of consoles fans and thanks the fans for sticking by through the years. Moreover, it was co-penned by one of their own members who arguably understands the band's style more which makes the song more personal. In sum, a very apt song to bid farewell but fell from grace.

On a different note, we say good bye to another Singaporean Son who died from complications of a crush injury. No wars, but our soldiers keep dying due to service - pretty ironic indeed. They keep saying to cherish those around you while they are still around because you never know what might happen the next day or the next hour. It's true. So people, don't be afraid to show your care and love to people you hold dear because we might not be able to shun whatever that will prevent us from fulfilling the verbal promise of "see you tomorrow". I hope family and friends of Aloysius Pang stay strong through this ordeal.

Here we go, lost in the lessons
Sometimes I mess up my intentions
I get lost, the cost was losing everything I've known
Laying here, staring at the ceiling
Sometimes still dealing with the feelings
Where I've been, what I've done
I'm so far out there on my own
So quick to point the finger
To find the one to blame
So hard to realize, I kept getting in my own way

I never thought that I was that strong
To carry on, carry on tonight
Forgiveness in your eyes, with nothing to hide
All I know, is you've shown me
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world

No more fearing my reflection
Here I am, with these imperfections
You know my flaws,
But you don't care, you take them all
Till now I was barely breathing
But you gave me something to believe in
We're writing history
Life's made up of small victories
We could go round in circles
And never get to here
So glad to realize that we have nothing left to fear

I never thought that I was that strong
To carry on, carry on tonight
Forgiveness in your eyes, with nothing to hide
All I know, is you've shown me
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world

So quick to point the finger
When it was me to blame
So hard to realize, I kept getting in my own way

I never thought that I was that strong
To carry on, carry on tonight
Forgiveness in your eyes, there's nothing to hide
All I know, is you've shown me
It's a beautiful world

Oh the stars alight
Let's watch them shine for you and I
Oh these open skies
Can we just lie here a while
In this beautiful world

I never thought that I was that strong
To carry on
It's a beautiful world
It's a beautiful world
