The DoDo Men

In my previous post, I mentioned a pair of Taiwanese YouTubers exploring life and disseminating the message of stepping out of one's comfort zone. The name of the channel is 'The DoDo Men 嘟嘟人'. 'Do' is in the same vein as Nike's slogan, which is in line with their vision. And it is repeated because there are 2 guys. Their popularity has been rising and they were recently invited to a talk show. The 48-minute show seemed to pass in a flash, because they were articulate and engaging. It was indeed a pleasure to watch and hear their stories. There was another guest on the show apart from the duo, who did not have the chance to share much. I thought it was a pity for this lady because I believe she has her fair share of stuff to share. I understand that viewership is key and the producers expected the duo to deliver more "interesting" stories considering their overseas experiences. They could've just invited the guys for that episode and maybe have the lady in a part 2, perhaps together with someone else with a similar background.

Anyway, I had a random thought. Many of us do not speak Mandarin often, or even reach the extent of disliking the Chinese language. I once wrote a similar post about how we should value our Mother Tongue so I shall not expound on its importance, but have you ever considered that Chinese can express more than English in fewer words? It might be hard to learn, but it is a poetic language. If only students learnt the beauty of how expressive it is instead of memorizing the hanyu pinyin and characters by rote learning, maybe then they would not find it a chore to learn the language. From this, we can also see the pivotal role a teacher plays. If you want to be a teacher, you should really look beyond job stability and school vacations as your reasons for wanting to take on the role. It is very heartening to hear that The DoDo Men still have a good command of the Chinese language while retaining their Taiwanese accent despite having stayed in the U.S for about two decades.

Of course, everyone has their preferences and as adults, they are already quite shaped and resistant to changes. I'm just saying things could've been different, if things had been done differently in an earlier stage of life. By the way, Merry Christmas in advance, everyone. Not sure if I'll be posting again this month so early wishes to all. This year has been a shitty one because of the pandemic, but I think that some good things have happened to me, such as having the chance to work from home, which surely has its own perks, and discovering wholesome stuff such the DoDo Men's channel.
