PL2131: The Last Lecture

Yesterday was the last lecture of PL2131, taught by Dr. Stephen Lim. Clear in his explanations, entertaining, and highly approachable. One of my most vivid memory of him was how he encouraged students to add him on Facebook during one of the lectures, and then using names of students in the Mid Term. Here's the best part: When going through the Mid Term answers, it was revealed that he also had slight background knowledge of people whose names he used, such as XXX who just returned from Bangkok not long ago. It had the class roaring in laughter, mouth agape in disbelief, and probably left quite a handful thinking, "What a stalker!" But really, he puts in a lot of effort in knowing students, always walking around greeting "Good morning" before the start of lectures, and prepares his slides meticulously to create the entertainment effect. One of the best professors in NUS without a doubt. During the last part of the lecture yesterday, he shared a little story about himself to act as an inspiration for us to strive hard in life and stuff, not forgetting to play background music as he spoke. Totally reminded of a MadTV skit, where this plastic surgeon also played background music while sharing her story to dissuade a patient from resorting to surgery. Below is a class photo he decided to take, and was subsequently sent to students of the cohort.

Shall end off with an emotional song. I remember singing this during music class in primary school, the English version by 4pm though. Kyu Sakamoto smiles like there's no tomorrow when he sings. A pity he died early, and in a tragic way.
