A Bizarre Election

One of the things OBS taught me was to "Expect the unexpected".

Saw someone post this on FB:
"I try my best to not talk about politics on Facebook. However the US Presidential elections and Brexit has forced me to change my mind. This year I have seen people on my feed trashing Trump as though they are long time experts on American politics. While i have been following American politics long before the current election cycle, I confess that there are many things that I still do not know.
I have some questions to the NeverTrump folks. On what CONSISTENT principles are you opposing Trump? If the PAP or our opposition parties advocate the same kind of policies or with the same premises as Trump, are you willing to hold them accountable? Are you willing to hold Hillary Clinton to the same standards? Are you aware of Clinton's controversies? What are your news sources? Is it a Facebook page which is prominently left-wing or the largely left-wing MSM such as CNN and NYT which has being caught colluding with the Democratic Party? Do you solely take your information from such sources? Have you bothered to check out alternative sources such as Faux News? How many hours have spend on reading about each candidates' policies and the underlying principles behind such policies? Has anyone even bothered to find out what is the content that Wikileaks has been publishing?
If the answer to all of these is no, perhaps it is time to make a legitimate attempt to know more about policies. It is easy to regurgitate what we see than to take the precious time off watching the latest Korean drama or Game of Thrones episode to earnestly read about policies, economics, political philosophy, current affairs and getting to know the other point of view.
If you do not wish to become the stereotypical ignorant Trump supporter, then this is something you should do instead of bandwagoning and watching GoT.
Lastly, Obama won the 2008 election in a landslide. The Democrats were in control of both the Senate and House of Representatives. The result can be interpreted as the rejection of Bush's and the Republicans' policies both foreign and domestic. Fast forward to 2016, the Democrats have lost the legislative and executive branch of the federal government to the Republicans. Republicans have gained control majority of the states either through the state legislative body or winning the governorship. For a country that elected a Black man as president twice and put them in control of the Senate and House of Representatives, people do not magically become islamophobic, misogynistic and racist overnight. Concurrently most states which most people migrate to are mostly Red States while states which are facing population exodus are mostly Blue States. Let that sink in."

Truth be told, this election is like picking the lesser of two evils. Both candidates portray a tainted image of themselves in different ways. Yes, Clinton with her controversies, but is Trump any better with his derogatory remarks about women among other acrimonious remarks? Is Trump any better with him talking pleasure in hurling groundless accusations and proposing confounding plans? Refer to http://www.straitstimes.com/world/united-states/us-elections-donald-trumps-to-do-list-as-president?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&xtor=CS1-10#link_time=1478681202 for Trump's ambitions. Published by The Straits Times and based on Trump's campaign speeches - fair enough? TL;DR: Build a wall on the border with Mexico and make Mexico pay for it, and "Bomb the hell" out of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, just to name 2 of them, and already fucking jaw-dropping enough.

Faux News and Wikileaks? Seriously??? Can't even be bothered to comment on this.

"If you do not wish to become the stereotypical ignorant Trump supporter." Now I'm confused. Speaking up for Clinton or Trump? Anyway, like what I've mentioned earlier, choosing the lesser of two evils. People probably choose Clinton because despite her controversies, they believe she is still slightly better than Trump, just like how this friend thinks Trump is better than Clinton (provided he also knows what atrocious stuff Trump had said umpteen times).

"People do not magically become islamophobic, misogynistic and racist overnight." Yes indeed, but doesn't this imply that he subtly agrees that Trump IS islamophobic, misogynistic, and racist? So are those qualities what we want in a nation's leader? The same people who voted for Obama could have voted for Trump, but that actually depends on who the candidates are. It just so happened that they think Trump is better than Clinton, not like Trump had a landslide victory anyway.

Clinton may not be the best candidate but why are Trump supporters such jokes?
