House of Nostalgia

Made a trip to Malaysia last Sunday with parents. Shopped at my favourite departmental store and had a bountiful hunt. They were going to sell the apartment which we used to stay over the weekends many years back. Subsequently, it has been rented out. My dad said he has not bothered to see the tenants for the past 4 years. Funny guy. Not so much of being trusting but more of being nonchalant, I believe. Previously when the management was bad, and the exterior of the apartments looking miserable with paint peeling off and whatnot, nobody wanted a unit even for 100k. Now he offered 190k and easily hooked an eager buyer. When we left the agent and the potential buyer to discuss, my parents said they actually hoped that the deal would fall through, because they could have jacked up the price further. I felt that it was a failed investment because he wouldn't make much of a profit with 190k. But dad explained that the pricing fluctuates, and just so happened that it's beginning to look up now. He had previously given his word for 190k so it wouldn't look good to suddenly put a higher price tag. Anyway, bye to the apartment. Had some pretty good memories there. Could paint mental images of the times I spent there as I roamed around the rooms. Mum's handicraft - a framed cross stitch - was still there, left untouched by all the tenants that had been there. Think it measured some 1m by 2m. Not easy.

Had some satisfying hawker fare, gazing at cute little families, some with their dogs. Couldn't take my eyes off this slightly stout girl sitting comfortably with one leg folded, and the other swinging back and forth over the edge of the chair, slippers off, and munching on some succulent fried chicken accompanied by an oversized glass of sugar cane. A picture of simple pleasure.

Had a T2 meet-up on 30 Dec. About half the class and most teachers turned up. Talked to every single classmate. Interesting to know how everyone was doing and hear them recount their SEP adventures. Some have even stepped out to the working world. Yeah I'm referring to the NBS girls in particular. Envious yet contented: rather ambivalent.

Module planning for this semester is such a pain. School's starting soon and I know I'll dread to see some unwanted faces but someone who just read "The 5 People You Meet in Heaven" highlighted one of the themes in the novel: "Hatred is a curved blade". Will think about life in Cambodia from time to time because many times it was damn chill. Talking about chilling, I am happy to have made the decision to watch Star Wars episode 7, the movie that just overtook Avatar to become the highest grossing film of all time in North America.
