Something Not Emo

I actually met up with some of my ex colleagues last Friday. Kind of awkward, didn't talk much for the whole 3 hours. Actually for the whole time we were just gossiping about the crushes and relationships between our co-workers, some in the group involved. I mostly listened, but a certain successful couple came as a surprise to me too. There was a bitching session about someone who posted a picture of his brother and himself, both shirtless in their bedroom. One pointed out that it is weird to take this kind of picture as he painted a scenario.
"Imagine you ask your best friend to go your house. Ok can. Then you tell him 'You want come my bedroom?'. After which, 'Eh take off your shirt we take a picture.'."
Made me laugh so bad. Actually the picture can be taken without being weird, if the circumstance flows. But the way he put it was really rofl-ing.
And so, I met Jiamin two nights ago. I'm pretty sure the last time I saw her was 2005, when we graduated from primary school. Had so much joy chatting, and I am really full of praises for her. She has always been doing well academically. She likes to have fun but that doesn't mean that she doesn't care about her grades. In other words, she strikes a balance between work and play. When someone asks her why she's going out instead of studying, she answers frankly and obviously, "To chillax?" That's because when she was studying, others were not there to see. She pointed out that she gets irritated when someone keeps complaining to her that he or she is stressed. A quote from the army, "Don't make your problem my problem." That's the thing. It's like, if your complaints don't further put stress on your friend, then it's alright, maybe you just want someone to hear you out. But if your friend is in the same situation as you, then seriously need to control. One may be calm on the surface but he or she may not be on the inside.
Jiamin doesn't disrupt conversations by checking her messages or other notifications. It feels so comfortable and valued to be around her. She bought a cake, said it was to encourage a friend who was having internship. Specially drop by the workplace to deliver this kind of sweetness and thought. Lovely beyond words. The hall she is staying at, is weak in sports. Nevertheless, she still cheers for them fervently and enthusiastically. Having the support from such friends who are not afraid of you embarrassing them - how precious? She believes that we can't possibly be studying all the time while we are awake. So, there is actually time for other activities. This makes sense. So despite being in a highly competitive faculty, she bravely took up 5 other roles outside of curriculum at one point. Although it must have been hectic and sleep depriving, she still managed, so seriously kudos to her capabilities and confidence.
Like many others, Jiamin already got a driving license. She may be bad in directions, but she isn't afraid to accept her weakness. She stopped piano at grade 8 and sometimes people asked why she did not want to go for diploma. She said that she chooses what she wants - possessing strong principles. Anyway grade 8 is good enough, I think. At least she didn't stop half-heartedly at grade 5 or something. Singing has always been her love, and being in choir since primary school must've made her appreciate music even more and added colours to school life. She also has a scuba diving certificate. Her adventurous spirit can also be seen from her frequent travels round the world and readiness to explore the unknown. She said that she isn't afraid to drive around Australia, and so long you don't crash your vehicle, there is no problem too big. Again, that confidence.
Jiamin's bubbly and jovial nature will make her a fun person to hang out with. The signature "Excellent" with a bimbotic accent might take some time to get used to, but that's what makes her even more unique.
I don't usually praise someone till high heavens like this. Jiamin, if you're reading this, keep it up! Knowing you is a blessing.
